A Certified Criminal Record
A Certified Criminal Record is required for a Record Suspension or US Entry Waiver application in Canada. This record is requested from the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and contains your fingerprints and details of your convictions. You will need it to get your documents from courts and police departments.
Getting fingerprints for a Certified Criminal Record
The first step to obtaining a Certified Criminal Record is to have your fingerprints scanned at your local police station or by an accredited company. If you use AllCleared to process your application, we will help you find an agency. If you are outside of Canada, you will need to have accredited companies within Canada digitize and electronically submit your fingerprints.
Application
Along with your fingerprints, you will need to provide personal information such as your:
- full name
- date of birth
- sex
- mailing address
- phone number
You will also be required to explain why you are requesting the record.
Sending in your application
Be sure to verify that your application is complete and accurate. All necessary fees and supporting material such as letters from third parties must be included in your submission.
Note that your fingerprints must be submitted to the RCMP electronically. If your local police station does not offer electronic submission services, you may be directed to another station or an accredited fingerprinting company. The fee to process the application is $25 which you will pay to the police service or fingerprinting company. You will also need to pay the fee for the fingerprints which are generally around $60 to $80.
The local police or accredited company will then electronically submit your fingerprints to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Processing Time
If you have a criminal record, the processing time for a Certified Criminal Record Check is 120 days. You must wait the full four months before contacting the RCMP to find out the status of your application.
The Certified Criminal Record is one way AllCleared can help you save time on your application. AllCleared processes expedited clients through our police partner. That means that you don’t have to wait for the Certified Criminal Record to come back before you can request the other documents. Remember that all of these other documents also involve potentially lengthy wait periods.
