If you would like to work for Instacart as a contractor, you will have to pass a background check.

These checks are carried out by Instacart on prospective contractors to ensure they are providing the safest possible experience for their customers.

What is a Background Check?

A background check uses a combination of public and private databases to check if a prospective hire has a criminal record.

Background checks can reveal a wide range of information about a candidate’s past, including their criminal history, driving history, work history, address history, credit report, education history, and more.

This check can take from a few days to a few weeks to complete, depending on the information that you had provided during the online background check.

The check requires your consent to be performed and you will need to provide Instacart with the following documents:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Social security number
  • Proof of residence
  • A copy of your degree or diploma if required
  • Your employment history
  • A copy of your credit report
  • Signed authorization form

Once these documents have been submitted and you give consent to a background check, the background check is performed and your employment at Instacart is either confirmed or denied.

Crimes that May Disqualify You During an Instacart Background Check?

You may be disqualified from being employed by Instacart if your background check reveals you have been convicted for a crime that precludes them from confirming your offer of employment.

Its important to realize that not every criminal conviction will lead to automatic failure of the background check. Instacart does treat each case separately and assesses the severity of each conviction on its merits.

Crimes that may disqualify you from working for Instacart may include:

  • Sexual offence convictions and pornography
  • Violent crime convictions
  • Robbery or burglary convictions
  • Drug trafficking or manufacturing convictions
  • Theft and white-collar convictions
  • Arson
  • Murder
  • Fraud
  • Extortion
  • Larceny
  • Firearms offences
  • A recent DUI may also be grounds for denial

As these convictions remain on your record for life, there are limited options if your criminal record disqualifies you from employment opportunities such as Instacart.

The good news is that in certain circumstances, your record can be sealed with a record suspension to give you a second chance.

Don’t let your criminal record hold you back.

It is time to take the next step.

Get a Record Suspension to Seal Your Record

Often dubbed “Pardon”, a Record Suspension is the process that allows eligible individuals to have their criminal records sealed from public databases. Your criminal record will be sealed, and it will not be visible during any background checks you may have to take.

Once completed, you can apply to any position requiring a background check with confidence. When you are ready to start the process, we can help.
