To renew a US Entry Waiver, you should follow the same process you took on your initial waiver. That’s why it’s a good idea to photocopy your Waiver application and store it in a safe place before delivering the original to the border. If you have already received a US Entry Waiver, you are familiar with the process. You likely already know that the US government requires supporting documentation in order to provide you with a waiver to enter the United States with a criminal record.

A Record Suspension, formerly called a pardon, is not sufficient for entry into the US. Having a Canadian pardon will also not help you to get a renewal of your US Entry Waiver. You must go through the same process to get assurances that you can cross the border safely.

Typically, the process to renew a US Entry Waiver takes nearly a year. For this reason, it’s good to keep on top of your paperwork and get things going well before your current entry waiver expires. Depending on how long ago you were convicted of an offence, and the seriousness of that offence, your waiver may be good for one, two or five years. If your waiver is only good for one year, it’s smart to restart the process almost immediately.
