Here's Elliot from Winnipeg, who recovered from his mistake and kept his past from limiting his future.
"I used to have a lot of anger. I led a very unhealthy lifestyle and suffered a string of poor relationships, including my own upbringing. One evening when I was coming from from a bar I was convicted of aggravated assault, a guy had hit me in his face and I retaliated until he was on the ground. Since then I've seen the error of my ways and really aimed to clean up my act. I'm happily married with a daughter, I work a successful job in construction, and I've gone to counselling and managed to quit drinking. I've been lucky to have such a strong support network, and having a child has opened my eyes to change so that I don’t pass on my own negative perceptions. I try to do the things for her and provide her with the opportunities that I missed in my earlier years. Since the record suspension I've been promoted within my company, and I've been able to travel freely across the world for work and vacations with my family. My negative past has become a positive future, it’s an amazing feeling."
