I grew up in the streets, and I was a drug addict from a young age. All my convictions were a direct result of that, and I constantly beat myself up about it, even after many successful years of turning my life around. My granted record suspension helped validate that I successfully changed, and that I had something to be proud of. I have a child now, and I’m able to foster children and build my career as a social worker, because I want to help kids who grow up the same way I did. They all deserve a second chance at life, a chance for positive change, just like I had.
